Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) has signed on to star in My One and Only, a psychological thriller from writer-director Wayne Kramer (The Cooler) that’s being presented for worldwide sales at Cannes by Film Bridge International.

Set to go before cameras in July, the film centers on Molly (Hale), a recently widowed young woman, suicidal with grief, who is abducted by a man intent on reinventing her as his dead wife — unleashing in Molly a fierce will to live.

Siena Oberman (The Good Mother) will produce for Artemis along with Steven Schneider (Late Night with the Devil, Split) and David Guglielmo (The Last Stop in Yuma County) for Spooky Pictures. Greg Lauritano (Fairyland) is executive producing alongside Phil Hunt for Head Gear, as well as DC Cassidy, Udaya Sharma and Michael Fisk for Interstellar Entertainment.

“Lucy Hale is one of the most gifted actors of her generation, and I’m excited to work with her on this unconventional and terrifying psychological thriller,” Kramer stated. “Audiences are going to see a new side to her with this performance. I can’t wait to bring it to the screen.”

Added Film Bridge International’s Ellen Wander and Jordan Dykstra, “We are extremely excited to be presenting such elevated material to our customers. Led by a top-notch team, we know audiences will be on the edge of their seats.”

Best known for roles in Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars, as well as films like Fantasy Island and Truth or Dare, Hale has most recently been seen starring in the romantic comedies Which Brings Me to You and Puppy Love, as well as AMC+’s crime drama Ragdoll. Coming up, she’ll also be seen starring in the indie Mort in Sherman Oaks, as well as F*** Mary Kill, an action comedy from Lionsgate and BuzzFeed Studios.

Best known for co-writing and directing the Las Vegas-set romantic drama The Cooler, starring William H. Macy, Maria Bello and Alec Baldwin, which brought the latter an Oscar nomination, Kramer’s other past credits include Running Scared and Pawn Shop Chronicles — a pair of titles starring the late Paul Walker — and the Harrison Ford starrer Crossing Over.

Hale is represented by CAA and Reel Talent Management.

Lucy Hale shared in a recent interview that she’s two years sober after struggling with alcoholism in her 20s, including while starring on the hit teen drama TV series “Pretty Little Liars.”

Appearing on Tuesday’s episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Hale, now 34, candidly opened up about her journey, saying, “I remember shame after every experience drinking because my drinking was never normal.”

“I wasn’t always sloppy blacking out – a lot of the time I was – but it was very clear I was drinking to escape something even at a young age,” the actor said, adding that it didn’t become clear until her early twenties that she “had a problem.”

Hale said that while on “PLL,” she “didn’t talk about” what she was going through outside of work – including going to rehab when she was 23 years old, a decision she said she made herself at the time.

“That was a very pivotal moment in my life,” she added, later saying that at times her struggle “got really dark… I was very sad, I was very scared.”

Hale’s attempts at sobriety throughout that time included trying a variation of therapies, rehabs and medications because “there was always a very strong desire to want to try to stop. I was just in this very sad cycle for all of my twenties.”

“I wasn’t ready to give up drinking,” she also said, reflecting that that was “why I didn’t get sober until I was 32.” Hale cited a “deep fear of what would happen if I continued acting this way for a very long time…”

The “Truth or Dare” star also shared that she had contracted Covid-19 the week she decided to get sober, which helped her commit because she was “forced to stay home.”

Without that I would’ve made excuses,” she said.

Two years into sobriety, Hale said that even though she “feels so strong in my path right now,” it’s still “deeply painful.”

“This is something I work on every day. I choose myself every moment of every day because I have to,” she said. “Because I want to be here, and I want to live a full life.”

Lucy Hale is set as a lead in Ragdoll, a crime drama series for AMC and Alibi based on the novel by Daniel Cole, Deadline has confirmed. The series hails from Sid Gentle Films, the British production company behind Killing Eve.

Adapted for television by Freddy Syborn, the six-part drama is described as a “modern-day Faustian thriller” centers on the murder of six people whose bodies have been dismembered and sewn into the shape of one grotesque body — nicknamed “The Ragdoll.” Assigned to the shocking case are DS Nathan Rose, recently reinstated to the London Met; his best friend and boss, DI Emily Baxter; and the unit’s new recruit, DC Lake Edmunds, portrayed by Hale. The “Ragdoll Killer” taunts the police by sending them a list of his next victims, with Rose’s name among them. And with those victims to protect, our heroes soon come under intense public scrutiny.

Filming is slated to begin this spring for a premiere later this year. Ragdoll will air on AMC in the United States and Alibi in the UK.

Syborn will serve as the lead writer and executive producer. Series will be executive produced by Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris for Sid Gentle Films Ltd, one of BBC Studios invested indie production companies. Dan McDermott and Kristin Jones will take the lead for AMC and Philippa Collie Cousins, Commissioning Editor, Drama for UKTV will be executive producer for Alibi. Lizzie Rusbridger will produce.

Best known for her starring role in Pretty Little Liars, Hale recently starred as the titular character in the CW’s Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene, as well as Life Sentence and Privileged. She recently completed filming Borrego, on which she also serves as an executive producer, and will be seen in the upcoming romantic comedy The Hating Game, based on the book by Sally Thorne.
